Serious Games
Milan (IT), May 2010 - The E-VITA project ("European Life Experiences") - co-funded by the Education and Culture DG under the Lifelong Learning Programme - is to develop and test serious games that let younger generations "live" stories experienced and told by older people. This way, the past can be experienced directly and understood while playing a game that once was a real story.

Graz (AT), May 2010 - Bit media has sent out the first newsletter on the European project SEES - "SME's eLearning to E-work Efficiently". The goal of this project, developed under the Leonardo da Vinci programme, is to provide practical and useful support to prepare e-managers and e-workers of SMEs to work in a "virtual environment".

Standardization
Essen (GER), February 2010 - The year 2009 was a very successful year for European eLearning standardization. Three new standardization projects were started, and as the highlight, the first European de-jure standard was published. "We are very pleased that the first official European Norm (EN) for eLearning was approved in consensus last year!", explains Christian M. Stracke, Vice-Chair of the European eLearning standardization body CEN/TC 353.

Thessaloniki (GR)/Brussels (BE), November 2009 - Cedefop and the European Commission's Directorate General for Education and Culture have introduced new European tools: the European Quality Assurance Reference Framework (EQARF) and the European Credit System for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET).

Valencia (ES), June 2009 - The UNI-QM project aims at creating a model and tools for quality management in lifelong-learning organisations and continuing education. The model and tools will be based on the EFQM model but applied in the field of lifelong learning, thus respecting its characteristics and needs.

Schwarmstedt (GER), November 2008 - At Online Educa, Train2Cert project will present and offer ICT certificates and training to commercial partners for joint exploitation. On Friday, December 5, Dr. Piotr Zwierzykowski from the Poznan University of Technology in Poland will present vocational training solutions for certification in the most current ICT skill areas. In the 2.30 p.m. session of the "Teaching and Training Skills for the 21st Century" conference track, he will showcase blended and technology-based training formats for certificates on currently sought-after ICT skills.
SeniorLearning
Barcelona (ES), September 2008 - A simple and easy-to-use eLearning platform recently went online that is specifically designed for senior citizens (55+). The project SeniorLearning is supported by the European Commission under the Lifelong Learning Grundtvig Programme. It offers free access to practical, structured, and easy-to-follow online courses that enable senior citizens to learn how to use the Internet and benefit from its services.
Organic.Edunet
Athens (GR), April 2008 - Organic.Edunet is a European initiative that aims to raise awareness about organic agriculture and agroecology in agricultural universities and schools around Europe. Organic.Edunet wants to facilitate access, usage, and exploitation of digital educational content for teaching relevant topics. In this context, an online survey has been launched.

European Support
Chemnitz (GER), March 2008 - The project SOLE is a Leonardo Transfer-of-Innovations-funded project that brings placement support to new EU member states and is targeted towards SMEs and job seekers in foreign countries. The Project's aim is to help employers who take on workers, trainees, and students from other European countries. From October 2007 until October 2009, the three partners, Interminds LLC, Bulgaria, ROC Midden, the Netherlands, and Community4you GmbH, Germany will carry out the project.

Twente (NL), September 2007 - Inquiry learning with computer simulations facilitates the education process through experimentation and scientific reasoning. With simulations, students change variables and observe effects in order to form conclusions. Through this process students discover principles, rules, and characteristics of scientific phenomena. So say researchers from the University of Twente, NL, in new guidelines for teachers that provide practical recommendations for improved deployment ICT in secondary schools.
