Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy

London (UK), September 2012 - The internationally renowned Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKY School) has launched a book entitled "Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy: Building a Global Policy School in Asia" published by World Scientific Publishing. Eight years into the School's establishment, Kishore Mahbubani, Stavros N. Yiannouka, Scott A. Fritzen, Astrid S. Tuminez, and Kenneth Paul Tan, who have been with the School since its inception, have collaborated in this project to provide insights into the challenges faced in guiding the School during its formative years.



Apart from providing unique perspectives on the key events that have placed the school on its current trajectory, the authors also present their thoughts on the challenges and opportunities ahead for the School, which is currently the third best-endowed school of public policy globally after its peers in Harvard and Princeton. Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission of India, recognised the School for its -œwell-earned reputation for doing research and providing a forum for policy debate.-

Some of the notable contents of the book include:

  • the relevance of an Asian policy school
  • what will make the LKY School's curriculum "one of the most innovative"
  • what sets global policy studies apart from all other academic disciplines
  • why executive education at the LKY School is one of the largest in the world
  • why the LKY School is the third best-endowed policy school in the world
  • a view of high-profile participating "student officials".
Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of Indonesia, praised the authors and said that the book is an "insightful narrative on what it takes to build a global policy school." Other commendations given include former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair who "heartily commends this new book", and Professor Joseph Nye, former Dean of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, who said that the story of the School's success is "well described in these pages."

Professor Kishore Mahbubani, who is also the Dean of the LKY School said, "The School has come a long way, and its remarkable story deserves to be told. I am glad that my colleagues have joined me in documenting the results of the first eight years in vivid detail."

Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy: Building a Global Policy School in Asia is available at major bookstores and retails at S$15 (Singapore only) or US$20.
